Story-:

Selvaraghavan, a native of a remote hill village lacking proper road connectivity, earns his livelihood by selling palm fruit. He eventually marries Kushi Ravi. Driven by a desire to provide a good life for the wife he married out of love, he borrows money from various sources to open a small eatery near a highway. Just as Selvaraghavan and Kushi Ravi are living a life of such bliss that one might say, “There is no couple in this world quite like them,” Kushi Ravi suddenly commits suicide.

Upon discovering the shocking truth behind his wife’s suicide, Selvaraghavan takes a course of action that leads the people of his village to revere him as a deity. What exactly was that action? Narrating this story—while highlighting the real-life struggles faced by common people with a strong sense of social responsibility—forms the core of the film *Manithan Deivamagalam*.

Movie Review-:

Selvaraghavan, perfectly suited for the role of a remarkably gentle character, has done full justice to the part by accurately conveying its nuances through his performance. He anchors the film through his portrayal of deep affection for his wife, his anguish over the atrocities she endured, and the explosive transformation he ultimately undergoes. However, moments of artificiality are visible in his acting at several points; it remains unclear why a character who is consistently portrayed as calm and composed struggles—at times to the point of incoherence—to even speak properly in various scenes.

Debutante actress Khushi Ravi, starring as the female lead, impresses not only with her beauty but also with her acting prowess. She earns accolades for her highly natural performance in scenes depicting her love for her husband.
Although Kausalya, who plays Selvaraghavan’s elder sister, does not have a substantial role, she executes her part with complete satisfaction. R.S. Satish, playing her husband, captures the audience’s attention by elegantly conveying various emotional nuances through his performance.

Mime Gopi, playing the role of a predatory moneylender, delivers a performance so effective that it evokes genuine loathing for his character among the audience. Y.G. Mahendran, appearing in the role of a minister, once again delivers a performance marked by his signature artificiality.

Young Lirthika, Salem Deepak, and several other newcomers appear as the local inhabitants of the region. Their naturalistic acting beautifully reflects the authentic way of life in that land on the silver screen.

Ravi Varma’s cinematography vividly places before our eyes the plight of villages that still lack proper road connectivity—even in this modern era—as well as the living conditions of the people who inhabit that land.

Under the musical direction of composer A.K. Priyan, all the songs prove to be memorable and enduring. The background score effectively serves to convey the characters’ emotions and pain directly to the minds of the audience. Deepak S., the editor, has assembled the scenes to allow for a deliberate pace in this film, which explores the lifestyle of a simple village and the challenges its inhabitants face. His approach—prioritizing the deep resonance of the characters’ emotions in the minds of the audience over mere thrills—adds significant strength to the movie.

Writer-Director Dennis Manjunath has not only powerfully documented the plight of villagers struggling without basic amenities—specifically highlighting the suffering of women facing the atrocities of predatory moneylenders—but has also handled the screenplay with remarkable realism.

Although the screenplay unfolds at a measured pace, it succeeds admirably in conveying the characters’ emotions to the audience. Through his portrayal of how an ordinary man transforms into a savior for others, the director effectively delivers a fitting punishment to those who perpetrate crimes against women.

Director Dennis Manjunath has visualized the lives of common people—their aspirations and their arduous labor to achieve them—with striking authenticity. By emotionally capturing the daily struggles they endure and the resulting injustices they face, he leaves the audience deeply shaken. All in all,*Manithan Deivamagalam * is a film that weighs heavily on the heart.
