“Nationalism and divinity are my two eyes” was the name of the late freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar, who lived and loved our country and devotion. National Leader is a biopic about his life. Thevar’s birthday was yesterday (October 30). Musician Ilayaraja has composed the music for the film. Aravindraj, who directed the film Umai Vizhigal with Vijayakanth, has directed the film.
The story begins in the pre-independence period. Thevar is involved in freedom struggles in his native district of Ramanathapuram and the southern districts. He contests elections against the Sethupathi king of Ramanathapuram and wins. He fights against the British government’s palm print law. He organizes temple visits for the Harijan people along with Madurai Vaidyanatha Iyer. He is inspired by the policies of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and joins the Forward Bloc party. After independence, he undertakes various social work. Due to a small problem, Emanuel Sekaran is murdered…

Here are the positive aspects of this film.
Many people tried to direct the film Muthu Ramalinga Thevar. But they could not. Aravindaraj can be praised for taking the life of Thevar after many struggles. Although the first half of the film is like a documentary, the second half is very emotional. The scene where Netaji, Nehru, Gandhi and Thevar meet is excellent. The climax scene and the court scene are well-crafted.
The strength of the film is that it is the life of the film rather than the king. Ilayaraja makes the background music and songs that come when Thevar is about to die sound like ‘Arputham Raja’. Basheer fits perfectly as Muthu Ramalinga Thevar. Muthu Ramalinga with his long hair and a beautiful forehead He has lived and shown himself as a god.
The person who played Netaji matches the character structure to the extent that it can be said that Netaji Subhash has come alive.
Some minuses in the film… God loved spirituality as much as he loved politics. God’s spirituality is not strongly recorded in the film. There is an opinion that God bought a goat and paid taxes on it to make Kamaraj stand in the election. Some people refuse to accept this.
Without properly investigating this, they have shown that God was the reason for Kamaraj’s entry into politics. This could have been avoided.
The film Umai Vigilgal directed by Aravindaraj many years ago is still talked about for its technology. But there are many technical mistakes in the film National Leader. Despite some mistakes and shortcomings, we can congratulate the National Leader film team for making a film about Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar, who played a very important role in the freedom struggle in Tamil Nadu.
