Story-:
The film ‘Sirai’ (Prison) stands out as one of the best films of this year. Suresh Rajakumari, who worked as an assistant director to Vetrimaaran, has made a strong impression with his debut film. A police constable named Kathiravan escorts Abdul Rauf, a prisoner from Vellore jail, to the Sivagangai court. Through this journey, the director has powerfully depicted the shortcomings of the judicial system, a compelling love story, the difficulties faced by the police, and the arrogant attitude of some police officers who behave as if they are above the law.

Movie Review-:
L.K. Akshay Kumar has played the role of Abdul Rauf. He is the son of Seven Screen Studio’s Lalit Kumar. This film was made to launch him into the film industry. For this purpose, Lalit Kumar asked director Thamizh of ‘Taanakkaran’ fame for a story similar to ‘Visaranai’. In the true story narrated by Thamizh, Akshay fits perfectly into the character of Abdul. His voice, body language, and bewildered gaze have transformed him into Abdul. He has been directed to perform exceptionally well. Suresh Rajakumari has paid attention to even the smallest characters and refined them. He subtly portrays the love Abdul’s mother has for her husband. He has also realistically depicted the harmony between Kathiravan and his wife Mary. Anand Thambiraja has played the role of Mary. His face tells a story. The director has excelled not only in the selection of the characters but also in the way he has utilized them.
This is the 25th film for Vikram Prabhu, who plays the role of Constable Kathiravan, Mary’s husband. To make it even more special, the film is releasing on December 25th, Christmas Day, in 2025. Just like in ‘Taanakkaran’, he has received a memorable role that he can be proud of. Malayalam actress Anishma has played the role of Kalaiarasi, Rauf’s girlfriend. She has given an outstanding contribution, to the extent that she can be called the soul of the film. Her presence on screen adds beauty, depth, and intensity to the film. Her large eyes and smile are not only captivating, but when she is distressed, she makes the audience feel distressed too.

The injustice of languishing in prison for years without trial, only receiving adjournments, is something that should not happen to anyone. And if the victim happens to be a Muslim, it becomes an unbearable added cruelty. The director has questioned not only the apathy of the judiciary but also the prevailing public mindset. No matter how much right is on our side, it is difficult to alleviate the anxiety that arises when one has to confront the cruel mentality of the police who believe that you must submit to their authority. The way the Vikravandi police officer deals with the Vellore constable, who is in such a state of mind, is truly very satisfying, yet it also weighs heavily on the heart. It is noteworthy that the director concludes the film with a powerful message: if those in positions of power (whether small or large) act with compassion, the lives of many will channge for the better.
