Triumph Over Sarcoma: Over 200 parti cipants pedal the 3rd Edition of ‘Winn ers on Wheels’ Cyclothon

Chennai, August 03, 2024: In a power f ul display of solidarity and support, Ap ollo Proton Cancer Centre (APCC), Apo llo Cancer Centres (ACC) and Apollo S hine hosted the third edition of the Wi nners on Wheels Cyclothon. .The event was aimed at raising awareness about sarcoma and inspire hope for improve d quality of life after treatment. Sarcoma, a rare and often misunders tood cancer, predominantly affects ch ildren. By bringing cancer survivors, healthcare professionals and cycling enthusiasts together, the Cyclothon ce lebrated the indomitable human spirit and highlighted the importance of aw areness and support for sarcoma.
The event flagged-off by the Honble Th iru Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Ministe r for School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu and Mr. Harshad Reddy, Di rector of Group Oncology & Internatio nal at Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Li mited (AHEL), attracted an enthusiast ic crowd of over 200 participants. Amo ng them were sarcoma survivors, scho ol students, doctors and medical staff, all united in their endeavour to dispel cancer myths and honour the unbreak able human spirit.
The Honble Thiru Anbil Mahesh Poyya mozhi, Minister for School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, while exp ressing his admiration for this social c ause initiative, commented “I applaud Apollo team for their tireless efforts in raising awareness about Sarcoma canc er through the Winners on Wheels Cyc lothon. This event embodies the spirit of tenacity and hope that personifies o ur State. By supporting cancer winners and their families, we can create a rip ple effect of positivity and empowerm ent. The 3rd edition, which comprised a 5-km Cyclothon, was flagged-off at APCC to spread the powerful message that “There is Life Beyond Cancer” and the re is no challenge that can deter cance er warriors from achieving their goals. The inspiring event showcased sarcom a survivors leading the charge, symbol izing the unwavering strength and det ermination of those battling cancer.
Dr Vishnu Ramanujan, Consultant- Ort hopaedic Oncology, Apollo Cancer Cen tres, said, Sarcoma cancer is a comple x and formidable one, and it requires a multi-disciplinary approach to tackle its unique challenges. Having witnesse d the saddening impact it poses on pati ents and their families, I believe, it de mands personalized care, multi-modal treatment approach, counselling and unwavering support. The first step bo ils down to raising awareness and br eaking the myths surrounding this can cer. Through the Winners on Wheels C yclothon, we aim to break the silence surrounding sarcoma and provide a pl atform for survivors to share their ins spiring stories of courage.”

The Cyclothon commenced early in the morning with participants embarking on a scenic route that symbolized their journey of overcoming cancer. The eve nt was filled with energy and a sense o f community, underscoring the messa ge that together we can conquer cance r.
The ‘Winners on Wheels’ Cyclothon co ncluded with a ceremony honouring t he sarcoma winners, who were celebra ted not just for their participation but also for their relentless fight against c ancer.
