Although the first love ends in failure for many, its memories alone, at some point, touch our hearts. The plot of the film is not only to remember our first love as such a moment, but also to inspire us to take a pleasant journey to find that love again.

Apishan Jeevind meets Anaswara Rajan, whom the family has seen for marriage. While the two exchange details about themselves, they also share their first love and its experience. Then Anaswara Rajan gets an idea and together they go in search of their first love. Did that quest make them fall in love? or not ‘With Love’ means to relive the happy or painful first love moments buried in the depths of the mind.

Movie Review-:

The film ‘With Love’ captivates as a heartwarming, feel-good creation. A more poetic Tamil title could have been chosen for the film.

Sathyaseelan and Monisha, who left their teenage love unspoken during their school days, now seek out their first loves to express their feelings. Debut director Madhan has narrated this beautiful journey with finesse and humor.

Harish Kumar plays the protagonist’s friend, Dinesh. Harish has been given a role similar to the ones he has excelled in several times before, in films like ‘Mudhalum Nee Mudivum Nee’, ‘Tata’, and ‘Lover’. Although it’s a small role that doesn’t fully utilize his talent, he reappears in the climax and adds to the fun.

“Respect her decision, whatever it may be,” is a dialogue spoken by RJ Anandhi, who plays the protagonist’s sister.

“Have you ever asked him why?” is a dialogue spoken by the female protagonist.

The director, Madhan, moves slightly away from the love story to a subplot: why Sathyaseelan slaps teacher Swaminathan. But he cleverly connects this to the main story. The film strongly emphasizes in three instances that many people don’t want to know the real reason behind something, instead reacting instantly and moving on without delving deeper. A natural hesitation arises in relationships where people are not ready for conversations without preconceived notions. The director subtly incorporates this idea into the dialogues, leaving the audience impressed. A character says, “This is how men think,” and then corrects himself, saying, “No, this is how I think.” Siddhappu Saravanan plays Swaminathan. Although Saravanan delivers the dialogue related to this point, the scene lacks impact and falls flat. But Theni Murugan has reflected the same theme beautifully.

Abhishan Jeevinth, who directed ‘Tourist Family’, one of last year’s successful films, has completely surrendered himself to the director. He has truly internalized the character, which lacks excessive heroism and receives a lot of ridicule, and brought it beautifully to the screen. He has delivered his part so perfectly that it’s hard to believe this is his first film as a lead actor. Although it doesn’t create the same magic as ’96, Sean Roldan’s background music has worked its magic in connecting the audience with the film. He has used Deva’s ‘Aval Varuvala’ song in one place, making it enjoyable. The music and lyrics greatly help in conveying the character’s emotions.

Kavya Anil, who plays Sathiyaseelan’s school sweetheart Anisha, is a perfect choice. The director has staged the scene where Sathya meets Anisha again to express his unspoken love in a very mature way. The natural screenplay, devoid of any silliness, easily captivates the audience.

Anaswara Rajan has impressed as Monisha. Her cute expressions make cinematographer Shreyas Krishna’s frames shine even more beautifully. Only her Malayalam-tinged dialogue delivery sounds slightly (a little bit) alien in a few places. If she had played a girl from Kerala speaking a charming Malayalam instead of a girl from Trichy, the natural cooing quality would have been more evident. However, in the film, Anaswara’s Tamil is somewhat assertive, in keeping with the character she plays. This assertiveness occasionally stands out, not quite harmonizing with her cute expressions. From the moment she is introduced, she becomes the central attraction of the film. It can even be said that in this film, the protagonist sees the world through the heroine’s perspective (or guidance).

The heroine, who would even confront her closest friend if anything happened to the person she loves unrequitedly, has mastered the art of knowing when to let go of her anger and forgive. Unfortunately, even at the end of the journey, the protagonist has not acquired this skill. While Satyaseelan is a typical hero of Tamil cinema, director Madhan’s character of Monisha is not.
