
16-Year-Old Cyclist Makes Miraculous Com eback after Complex Knee Surgery at Apoll o Hospitals OMR

Successfully performed a highly complex k nee reconstruction surgery on a 16-year-o ld male patient who sustained a cri tical ope n fracture of the patella (kneecap) followin g a road traffic accident. The patient, a pro mising cyclist, made a remarkable recovery and won a silver medal at the National Und er-16 Cycling Championship held in Puri, O disha—an extraordinary outcome that unde rscores the clinical excellence and multidis ciplinary approach at Apollo Hospitals.
The young patient was brought to Apollo O MR hospital with a severely comminuted fra cture of the patella caused by a motorcycle accident in which he was rid ing pillion. The injury involved multiple bone fragments alo ng an oblique shearing plane, with the add ed complication of mud and debris contami nating the ope n wound. Given the complexi ty of the fr acture and the risk of infection, urgent surgical intervention was deemed n ecessary to preserve joint function and pre vent long-term disability.
