Movie Review-:

Parari is a film that unabashedly talks about the caste and linguistic pride th at people display by suppressing the u nderprivileged. At the beginning of the film, we are shown a pig raised by Mar an’s oppressed community, running wi ld in the streets of the village. The hum ans, along with Maran, try to catch the pig, which creates tension in the caste-based community. As if that wasn’t eno ugh, the next step in the film is when t he dominant caste community unleas hes their wrath on Maran and co who have come to pray at a temple on a hill top and soon chases them away. Now, if you still don’t understand what kind of film this is, the next stop is how som e of the Maran community’s meat-eat ing habits are looked down upon, and as punishment, the water supply to the ir village is cut off. Again, if you are sti ll unclear about the film, comes the cli max, which involves a group of people stripping the lead pair, Black and Blue, and attacking them. Parari is at pains t o show the fury of oppression.

Parari intervenes in two types of social conflicts, one based on linguistic groun ds and the other on caste hierarchy. W hile the film begins with the latter, the group is soon recruited by a Karnata k a-based juice factory, where Tamil wor kers are caught up in the state’s patri otic group, where linguistic pride reig ns supreme. The Tamils are beaten do wn, and the film is left with a bleak pic ture of what it wants to say. It ultimat ely becomes a film that shows the viol ence inflicted on the oppressed, which is ostensibly about the actions and not the greater tragedy hidden behind the m.

The second half of Parari focuses mai nly on national pride in Karnataka, ho w workers from other states are treate d, and finally joins in with the most we ll-known feud running between Karna taka and Tamil Nadu; the Cauvery wa ter dispute. By cramming a myriad of s ocio-economic issues into one film, Par rari fails to do so, even though he want s to talk about the outsider syndrome . Instead, it bites off more than it can c hew, and we are left bewildered in un derstanding the seriousness of these i ssues. The climactic scenes of Parari ta ke great advantage of the audience to how brutality and violence, instead of which the film should have depicted t he same sensibly.

Parari deals with two issues that need to be talked about. But by taking on th e responsibility of giving voice to both, the film dilutes the understanding and its direction. Instead, it becomes a nois y film of violence.
