
SRM Institute of Hotel Management Sets New World Record with 1993 Baked Methu Vada Sambhar Creations

“This record is not just about numbers. I t’s about training our students to use th eir skills for a larger cause”, with these c omments Dr. D. Antony Ashok Kumar, D irector, SRM Institute of Hotel Manage ment inaugurated the world record setti ng event for SRM’s Institute of Hotel Ma nagement where they created the first e ver World record of making 1993 baked methu vadas and sambhar dishes.
These methu vada and sambhar dishes w ere arranged to form the emblems of SDG 2, Zero Hunger and the SRM IHM insig nia. The record-setting event wa s dedicated to commemorating the found ing year, 1993, of the Institute. It was co nducted at the SRM IHM- Ekkatuthangn gal, with both students and faculty repr resenting the University and Vadapalani campuses.
The highlight of the event was the joint efforts of the 50 IHM students, who wor ked together to create close to 2000 ba ked sambhar methu vada dishes, using cl ose to 60 kgs of dal and other bulk ingre dients.
“The baked Methu Vada is our unique c ulinary innovation. Made from protein-rich lentils like urad dal and toor dal, alo ng with fresh vegetables and soothing s pices, this version of Sambar Methu Vad a is not only delicious but also nutritiona lly healing,” added Dr. D. Antony Ashokk umar while elaborating on the significan ce of the dish.
The Zero Hunger mission was implemen ted, with the Institute distributing food to orphanages and charitable homes thr ough the efforts of the NGO, No Food W aste. This initiative demonstrated the pr actical fulfilment of Sustainable Develo pment Goal 2- Zero Hunger.
This event of creating a world record wa s made possible under the leadership of Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancell or of SRM Institute of Science and Techn ology; Dr. S.
