Chezhiyan, a leading cinematographer and a filmmaker known for introducing and documenting international cinema in Tamil, has made a strong mark as a cinematographer with films such as ‘Kalloori’, ‘Thenmerku Paruvakaatru’, and ‘Paradesi’. In addition to this, he earned critical acclaim as a director with the film ‘To Let’.

Many who admired his finesse in visually presenting simple stories felt that the techniques and craft of filmmaking should be taught by him to aspiring filmmakers. As a result of this demand, Chezhiyan founded a training institute called The Film School.

While applications to join the school were received from people belonging to various professions—including doctors, engineers, lawyers, and even foreign nationals—eighty were selected from among them. Chezhiyan personally trained these students in all departments of filmmaking, including story and screenplay development, cinematography techniques, and editing.

The students who have successfully completed their training at The Film School are now ready to make movies. A total of 34 feature films to be directed by these students will be launched on a single day at a ceremony to be held in Chennai on January 24, in the presence of leading personalities from the film industry.

Cinematographers P.C. Sreeram and Ravi Varman; editors B. Lenin and Sreekar Prasad; directors K. Hariharan and Prasanna Vithanage; and prominent figures including Trotsky Marudhu, the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Government MGR Film Institute, are expected to attend this event.

Expressing his happiness about this, Chezhiyan said, “It is a moment of great pride that those trained at The Film School are now ready to direct full-length feature films. Launching 34 movies at the same time is not an easy task. Leading members of the film industry, upon hearing about this, conveyed their wishes to us and have also accepted my invitation to attend the launch event. My heartfelt thanks to everyone.”
