Story-:

Director Pandiraj has attempted a creative twist on the storyline of the film *Papanasam*, essentially adding an extra layer of complexity to the plot.

Jayaram leads a simple life with his wife, Urvashi, and their two daughters. Sandy, a local rowdy, casts a lustful and predatory gaze upon both of his daughters. Jayaram’s family hatches a plan to murder Sandy, who has been tormenting the two girls. The very next day, Sandy is killed.

An internal investigation ensues within the family to determine which of them committed the murder. Subsequently, the local Inspector, Mysskin, steps into the fray. The intriguing events that unfold thereafter form the core of the film’s story.

Movie Review-:

Realizing that *Papanasam* served as the inspiration for the film, Jayaram occasionally spoofs the body language associated with that movie. This approach works well in a few instances. Urvashi’s chaotic brand of comedy elicits waves of laughter in the theater; lines such as her asking, “Won’t you spend just 300 rupees for a murder case?” belong to a delightfully zany genre of humor.

Sanjana Krishnamoorthy and Ananthika Sanilkumar both deliver performances that are restrained in some scenes, yet occasionally over-the-top in others. Yogi Babu manages to pull off his role reasonably well. A distinct “meter”—or rhythm—has been established for Mysskin’s character, and he utilizes this rhythm to absolute perfection.

Cinematographer George C. Williams captures our attention with shots that remain grounded in realism; he has portrayed the Pattinapakkam area of Chennai with impeccable accuracy. The film’s composer has also paid significant attention to crafting an effective background score.

As if to explicitly acknowledge to the audience that *Pariyerum Perumal* draws inspiration from *Papanasam*, director Pandiraj has gone so far as to depict the characters within this film watching *Papanasam* themselves. This meta-referential concept works brilliantly. In numerous scenes, the comedic timing injects a surge of energy into the film.

However, the fundamental emotional connection—the “family bond” that should serve as the film’s bedrock—is almost entirely absent. How would a middle-class family typically react with sheer panic in the wake of a murder? That palpable sense of anxiety is nowhere to be found in the performances on screen.

Consequently, we are unable to truly empathize with or emotionally journey alongside the main characters. The screenplay—which feels both superficial and lethargic—ultimately creates a disconnect that keeps us at a remove from the film.
*Parimala & Co.*: Not extraordinary… but just “Okay.”
