“I Wake Up In A New Country And People Still Recognize Me,” Prabhas On The Film That Made Him A Global Phenomenon and The Undisputed Pan-India Superstar
Ten years after Baahubali: The Beginning changed the landscape of Indian cinema, Prabhas continues to reign as the undisputed Pan-India superstar. The film not only redefined box office records but also turned the actor into a global phenomenon, making him one of the most recognized Indian stars across the world.
With the release of Bãhubali: The Torch Bearer, Prabhas reflected on the unimaginable impact the iconic character had on his life. Sharing how Baahubali transcended borders, languages and cultures, the actor recalled heartwarming moments from across the globe that made him realize the scale of the film’s success.
“I have had people come up to me in Italy and say my name. Even in Peru, where I had gone for some charity work, the kids told me how much they loved Baahubali. After Baahubali, the effect was madness,” Prabhas shared.
He further recalled a memorable incident involving director S.S. Rajamouli. “Someone in Norway went up to Rajamouli sir and said, ‘I think you are a director.’ Sometime later he goes, ‘I think you are the director of Baahubali.’ All the places Baahubali had reached was just magic.”
Speaking about how the film changed his personal life forever, Prabhas added, “When I wake up in a new country and people still recognize me, I call Rajamouli sir and say, ‘Won’t you allow me to travel in this lifetime? Don’t I deserve a personal life?’ Earlier we would go to Mumbai or Delhi to get away. That’s not an option anymore. Now wherever we go in the world, someone comes up and says, ‘Baahubali.'”
A decade later, the legacy of Baahubali remains unmatched. The film continues to stand as a landmark in Indian cinema, while Prabhas remains its biggest ambassador, an actor whose stardom has only grown stronger, cementing his place as the face of Pan-India cinema and one of the greatest actors on the global stage.
