Story-:

What happens when the wife accuses the husband of a manslaughter? And if the husband’s name is behind an incident that was covered up years ago?

‘Paris Cafe’ is a film that tries to tell this question by mixing family relations, political conflict and mystery.

Guru Somasundaram is a doctor. His wife, Anumol, is active in an organization that fights violence against women. A follower of Periyar thought, he is very firm in the principles he believes in.

But both the husband and wife who were supposed to live in the same house are now living separately due to disagreement.

Their daughter, who is currently working abroad, comes to meet her parents with her boyfriend.

The daughter’s arrival brings about a reunion of the estranged family. But the encounter brings out not only old memories… but also some truths that have been hidden for years.

What is the real reason behind the separation of Guru Somasundaram and Anumol? What happened in Guru Somasundaram’s past? What is the background of the manslaughter charge Anumol is making against him? Who is the real culprit in that incident? ‘Paris Cafe’ travels towards the answers.

Movie Review -:

At first sight it seems like a story of a husband and wife who are separated.

But as the story moves on, it becomes clear that the thing behind their split is bigger than a family issue.

The film takes its true path especially after the subject of homicide enters the story.

The approach taken by director Saraj Seelan here is different.

When it comes to homicide, he does not directly show incidents like love, anti-caste, family anger, violence, murder, but opens up an incident that has already been covered up.

The crux of the film is how the impact of that incident reverberates within a family years later.

When an actor named Guru Somasundaram plays a role, naturally an expectation is created for the role.

The director has used it correctly in this film as well.
Guru Somasundaram, who appears to be a calm doctor, is accused by his wife, ‘Is he really good? No, is he hiding something?’

It is interesting that the doubt is carried along with the story without immediately breaking it.

Guru Somasundaram has given his usual natural performance as a man who has lost his family, faces accusations against him and travels with the shadows of the past.

Without acting too much, he conveys his character’s mood at certain points through his gaze and body language.

As important as Guru Somasundaram is, Anumol’s character is also important.

She comes as a woman who fights against atrocities against women and a follower of Periyar ideas.

So after doubting her husband, she resists without giving up her principle for the relationship of ‘he is my husband’.

It is this place that makes Anumole’s character strong.

The relationship between her husband is on one side and the principle and justice she believes in is on the other.

Anumol’s role is also important in unraveling the important knots of the story.
Other actors including Archana, Vijay Vishwa, Sai Vicky, Naina Sai have also done their roles naturally.

Movies that focus on homicide are often more violent.

But that is where ‘Paris Cafe’ differs from other films.

Instead of shocking blood, flesh, and murder, it talks about what happened to the men behind a manslaughter after it was covered up.

So the approach of the film is a bit classy.

The film tries to tell a story by combining family relationships and social issues, so the film may connect more with fans who prefer a more relaxed story than those expecting a typical commercial script.

Although director Saraj Seelan’s take on the story and approach to it is different, the screenplay could have had a bit more pace.

Especially if the time taken to establish the family relationships at the beginning had been reduced a bit and the central mystery of the story would have been more brisk.

Likewise, the impact of the murder would have been increased if the background of the murder had been presented a little more forcefully
But as the film approaches its climax, the focus returns to the screen as the answers to the questions raised at the beginning begin to emerge one by one.

Especially the places that connect the cause of husband and wife separation and the incident of manslaughter are important parts of the story.

K. Krishnakumar’s music has traveled by understanding the nature of the story. He has given necessary background music to the emotional and mysterious parts without overdoing the scenes unnecessarily.

Satish Ji’s cinematography is another strength of the film. Especially the cinematography is suited to the seriousness of the story and the family scenes.

Thunder Media and L.V. Entertainment companies have jointly produced the film.

‘Paris Cafe’ takes the audience to a murder case that begins to search for the cause of a family split and hides behind it.

The main strengths of the film are the characters of Guru Somasundaram and Anumol. Especially the conflict created by the husband-wife relationship and the principle and justice standing against it attracts attention.

The difference is that the subject of manslaughter is not only told about violence, but also about the people behind it and their mentality.

If the screenplay had a bit more pace, the film would have given a more lively experience.

However, ‘Paris Cafe’ tells the sober svtory of how truths that have been buried for years come to light when a case is reopened.
