Chennai 27th August 2022: Vino Supraja, acclaimed ethical and sustainable fashion designer of eponymous fashion brand launched her debut book – What is Sustainable Fashion? An Antidote to Fashion Pollution, in her home town of Chennai at The Luz House, Mylapore on 27th August, 2022. The book launch served as the perfect platform for the first reveal of Vino’s latest collection – Purisai, inspired by the ancient Tamil street theatre art form of Therukoothu.
The book launch also saw Vino’s latest collection – Purisai being released. This collection is inspired by the anc ient Tamil street theatre art form of Therukoothu. Elaborating on her inspiration for this collection, Vino says, “Growing up, I lived just 10km away from Purisai village where the folk art of Therukoothu thrives to this day. My latest collection is drawn from my vivid memories of the painted faces of the artists, the long stripes on their voluminous skirts, the crown, the décor and the many mythological characters they brought to life with each performance. This is the art form of my home, and this collection is my dedication to the art of Therukoothu, for making my childhood colourful”.

About Vino Supraja
Vino Supraja is an ethical and sustainable fashion designer with an eponymous online sustainable fashion brand. A graduate of the premium French fashion school IFA Paris in Shanghai, China, she has trained intensely with Fr ench fashion couture professionals. Her graduation collection Patang walked the ramp in Shanghai Fashion Wee k and won The Golden Laureate Award with coverage in VOGUE and ELLE, China. Her critically acclaimed collec tions W and Kaleidoscope were published in Detroit Free Press and showcased on NBC Channel 4. Vino present ed her collection Buoyancy at the 10th Anniversary of Brooklyn Fashion Week to a standing ovation. Her colle ction Rise was presented at The New York Fashion Week.
Vino Supraja made the conscious decision to change paths and move from being a couture to a sustainable fashion designer in 2018. She currently has 7 collections under her label.
About What is Sustainable Fashion?
Vino Supraja’s debut book takes a hard look at the underbelly of the fashion industry and the pollution it causes in its wake. The book, with a Foreword by celebrated Bangladeshi model and UNESCO artist for peace, EARTHD AY.ORG ambassador Bibi Russell is split into three sections. The first, Fashion Violence explores the impact of th e fashion industry on the environment. The second section examines the various thought processes in the avera ge fashion purchase decision. Section three offers actionable points to help build a more ethical and sustainable wardrobe.
