Story-:
BATHTHA directed by Balaji Tharanee tharan and starring Vijay Sethupathi, has been released in theaters today. Set against the backdrop of 1986 Madras, the film centers on the life of a local tough guy; however, rather than being a typical gangster movie, it attempts to blend elements of humor, affection, friendship, and humanity. The bond between Vijay Sethupathi and a young boy named Sabari stands out as a key highlight of the film.

**A Unique Premise**
‘BATHTHA’ is a local tough guy whom everyone in the area views with fear. Due to an unexpected turn of events, he finds himself trapped inside an unused school restroom by an eight-year-old boy. While this might initially seem like a trivial, humorous incident, it evolves into the central plot of the film.

A unique bond gradually develops between the tough guy and the boy, who were complete strangers before this encounter. The story’s core journey revolves around how this relationship transforms BATHTHA’ s life.

Movie Review-:
Impressive on Humor in the First Half**
The opening scenes take some time to introduce the characters and their backgrounds. However, the screenplay picks up pace once Patha finds himself stuck at the school.
Humor arises from situations where a menacing gangster struggles while caught in an ordinary setting. At the same time, the director remains mindful of the character’s emotions, avoiding the pitfall of turning him into a purely comic figure.

The way minor incidents—particularly those set in the school—are transformed into humorous moments stands out. As the story moves towards the interval, the relationship between the two characters gains greater significance.
**The Vijay Sethupathi-Sabari Duo**
Vijay Sethupathi adopts an approach that differs slightly from his usual style for the character of Patha. He effortlessly conveys both the swagger typical of a gangster and the character’s softer, gentler side.

Another major strength of the film is the performance of the young boy, Sabari. His facial expressions and natural acting in scenes shared with Vijay Sethupathi are captivating. The bond of understanding that develops between the two forms the emotional core of the film.
**Heightened Emotions in the Second Half**While the first half prioritizes humor, the second half delves into Patha’s family and his past. This reveals the underlying reasons behind various incidents that initially appeared ordinary.

The director clearly strives to strike a balance between humor and emotion. The way the story’s various emotional threads converge in the climax, in particular, creates a powerful impact.
**Lijomol Jose and the Technical Team**
Lijomol Jose makes a significant contribution to the family-oriented segments of the story. His character adds the necessary emotional weight to the film.

Reviews note that Sai Abhyankar’s music and background score perfectly complement the film’s atmosphere. The music adapts seamlessly to the varying moods—ranging from the gangster backdrop to moments of humor and emotional depth. Cinematographer Selvakumar has played a pivotal role in bringing the 1980s era to life on screen.
Balaji Tharaneetharan’s Screenplay
Director Balaji Tharaneetharan’s screenplay is considered a major strength of the film *Paththa*. Rather than relying solely on grand events, he has crafted humor and emotion from the small, everyday occurrences of life.

The Vijay Sethupathi–Balaji Tharaneetharan duo has previously collaborated on films like *Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom* and *Seethakaathi*; *Paththa* marks their third collaboration. Consequently, anticipation for the film was high even before its release.

Overall, how is *Baththa*? Emeregas a film that explores an unexpected friendship and personal transformation against the backdrop of a gangster story. Although the narrative takes some time to find its footing in the first half, the screenplay becomes engaging following the school sequences.
Vijay Sethupathi’s performance and his scenes with Sabari are key highlights of the film. The blend of humor, family sentiment, friendship, and humanity sets *Paththa* apart from conventional gangster movies.
