MV Hospital for Diabetes launches MV DIABEAT APP” for people with Diabetic Foot Infection
Dr. Rodica Pop-Busui, President- American Diabetes Association received the prestigious 37th edition of Prof. M. Viswanathan Gold Medal Oration Award 2023.
Chennai 11 February 2023 : The MV Hospital for Diabetes and Prof M Viswanathan Diabetes Research Centre R oyapuram organised the 37 th Prof M Viswanathan DRC Gold Medal Oration on Saturday 11 February 2022 in C hennai. A new App MV DIABEAT was launched by the hospital for the convenience of people with Diabetic Fo ot Infection during this event. By using this App it is possible for the public to consult the multi-disciplinary team at the hospital for any query related to their feet and Diabetes treatment. The App is connected to a WhatsApp nu mber and the experts in the hospital will give an opinion on the Foot and Diabetes, This App is available in Play store.
India has gained the dubious distinction of being the world capital of diabetes, with more than 10% of its popula tion affected by this condition. Currently, there are about 6 crore diabetic patients in India, and by 2025, this nu mber is expected to increase to 74 million, as per IDF Atlas (10th edition). And China being the Diabetes capital. However, for every person diagnosed with diabetes there remains one who goes undetected. In Tamil Nadu, the prevalence of diabetes in urban areas is to the tune of 15-18% and in rural areas, 6-8%.

The M V Hospital for Diabetes is conducting, at its own cost, in Chennai, the Train the Foot Trainer program for t he first time in India and the South East Asia Region for training doctors in Diabetic Foot. About 100 doctors fr om India, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Maldives have been provided air fare and accommodation and kno wledge about this condition in the state-of-the-art Diabetic Foot Centre at the hospital said Dr. Vijay Viswanat han.

The Prof M Viswanatha n Gold Medal Oration was delivered by Dr. Rodica Pop-Busui, (President- American Diabetes Association) on the prevention and management of heart failure among people with Diabetes. Heart failure is a common condition which leads to fatigue and breathlessness. Today there are medicines which can treat heart failure very effectiv ely and prevent frequent hospitalization she said. Dr S. N. Narasingan Dean delivered the Welcome Address and Dr. Jayashree Gopal Associate Dean of the Institute gave the Vote of Thanks.
