ICMR Recognizes Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF)

ICMR Recognizes Madras Diabetes Re search Foundation (MDRF) as a Collab. orating Centre of Excellence.

Chennai, India, November 26th, 2024: The Indian Council of Medical Researc h (ICMR), the country’s apex body for medical research, has honored the Ma dras Diabetes Research Foundation (M DRF) with the prestigious designation of Collaborating Centre of Excellence (CCOE).

This recognition highlights MDRF’s out standing contributions to biomedical r esearch, particularly in the field of dia betes care and management. MDRF, th e research arm of Dr. Mohan’s Diabete s Specialities Centre in Chennai, was a selected as one of only 20 centers natio nwide for this honor.

This recognition follows MDRF’s previ ous global acknowledgment by the Wo rld Health Organization (WHO) for its pioneering work in diabetes research.

Dr. V. Mohan, Chairman of MDRF, and Dr. R. M. Anjana, President of MDRF, j ointly stated, “We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from ICMR. Founded in 1996, MDRF has grown to b ecome one of Asia’s largest and most r espected diabetes research institution s. The foundation has published over 1 ,770 research papers and boasts a tea m of more than 20 scientists specializ zing in diverse fields such as diabetes epidemiology, precision medicine, gen omics, and nutrition. MDRF has also se rved as the national coordinating cent er for the ICMR-led INDIAB study, one of India’s largest and most comprehen sive diabetes and non-communicable d isease (NCD) epidemiology studies.
