
DR B RAMAMURTHI MEMORIAL ORA TION DELIVERED BY GOPALKRISHNA GANDHI O N THE BACKDROP OF THE ASIAN-AUSTRA LASIAN NEURO SURG ERY CONFERENCE
The bi-annual Dr B Ramamurthi Oration was delivered by Gopalkrishna Gandhi, former Governor, Diplomat and Administrator on Su nday 23rd February 2025 at a function at Ch ennai, organised as part of the Asian Austr alasian (AASNS) Neurosurgery conference.
Dr Krish Sridhar, Group Mentor and Dir ector Neurosciences, Kauvery Hospital introduce d the orator and said that Dr B Ramamurthi was a pioneer neurosurgeo eon of India, a founding member of the Neurological Soci ety of India (NSI) and the Asian Australasia n Society as well as a Guru, mentor, friend and guide to many .
Shri Gopalkrishna Gandhi spoke on “The Wily way of Anger” highlighting the hu man reactions to anger and their consequences. He said “Anger is a universal hu man attribu te and no human is free from it. It is like living with a creature that overpowers us from time to time making of us say and do that of which we are bound to be ashamed and letting it do so.”
The AASNS International meeting saw more than 200 delegates participating with over 20 international faculty. Deliberations on Head and Spine Injury, Spinal surgery and Brain tumour surgery took place over 2 days. There was a significant participation from young neurosurgeons.
Dr Krish Sridhar, who is also the Vice Ch air Education Committee of the AASNS and the President Elect of the NSI said “education has always been an importan tant objective for any Neurosurgical socciety. It is import ant that the experience and expertise of senior and established neurosurgeons be passed on to the next generation. Dr Rama murthi was the epit ome of education and mentorship oof y oung neurosurgeons and it is but appro opriate that the Memorial Oration was delivered on the backdrop of such an educational program.”
