Mylapore MLA Tha. Velu Inaugurates Rotary’s Tailoring Skill Development C entre at Dr MGR Janaki College
● Event witnesses distribution of 200 power sewing machines worth Rs 20 l akhs to women starting their own tail oring units

Rotary International District 3234, in c ollaboration with the Rotary Club of M adras and the Women Empowerment, Economic Development, and Vocation al Services Team, and Access Healthca re, has inaugurated the Rotary Skill De velopment Centre at Dr. MGR Janaki C ollege of Arts and Science for Women to provide free training for women in tailoring and help them find jobs and start their own tail oring ventures.
Thiru. Tha. Velu, MLA of Mylapore, an d Rtn. N.S. Saravanan, District Govern or of RID 3234, inaugurated the skill de velopment centre here today. AKS Rtn. Mahi nder Jain, Chairman of Access He althcare, graced the event as the Guest of Hon our. The event also witnessed t he distrib ution of 200 power sewing m achines, w orth about Rs. 20 lakhs, to women train ed at Rotary’s existing s kill development centres in Selaiyur, Sembakkam, and Mylapore.
The new centre at Dr. MGR Janaki Arts and Science College for Women will off er a 120-hour tailoring course, spread a cross three months, to women from all walks of life, in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Government’s Skill Devel opment Department. The centre will a lso facilitate women in finding tailorin g jobs or lau nching their own tailoring units by distri buting power sewing ma chines free of cost.
Rtn. Dr. Kumar Rajendran, Chairma n of Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts and Scie nce for Women, who also serves a s the District Rotaract Chair, has provi ded the necessary infrastructure for t he smooth operation of the new skill d evelopment centre.7 Rotary Internatio nal District 3234 is planning to train a round 1500 women every year through all its fo ur skill development centres.
