INDIAN COAST GUARD AIRLIFTS A SRI LANKAN FISHERMAN WITH HEART AILMENT FROM DRIFTING BOAT OFF CHENNAI Indian Coast Guard helicopter evacuated a Sri Lankan fisherman who developed a heart condition on 05 Apr 2024 after his boat drifted to Indian waters due to engine failure. On 01 Apr 24, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) of Indian Coast Guard at Chennai had received a distress alert from MRCC Colombo about Sri Lankan Fishing Vessel (SLFV) ‘Kalpeni’ that was suspected to be adrift at sea due to snag in the engine. MRCC Colombo intimated that the boat had set sail from ‘Codbay’ fishing harbour in Sri Lanka on 22 March 24 with six crew members. The boat had ceased all communication from 28 Mar 24. COAST GUARD CONDUCTS REGIONAL AWARDS CEREMONY AT CHENNAI Indian Coast Guard felicitated its ships and establishments in the Eastern region who have delivered outstanding performance in the year 2023. The award ceremony was conducted on 28 Mar 2024 at Headquarters, Coast Guard Region (East) in Chennai. Inspector General Donny Michael, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (East) awarded trophies and certificates to Coast Guard units who have excelled in the realm of maritime operations, maintenance and adopting eco-friendly practices. COAST GUARD CONDUCTS MARITIME POLLUTION RESPONSE SEMINAR AT CHENNAI Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters No.5 (North Tamil Nadu) today conducted Pollution Response Seminar and Workshop involving officials from State Government, State Disaster Management Authority, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, Chennai Port, Kamarajar Port, Adani Port Kattuppali, various Oil Handling Agencies, Collector Office, Chennai and other stakeholders at Chennai. The aim of the seminar was to review the preparedness of stakeholders to contain any incidence of Oil Spill at sea and associated shore-line cleanup. Various Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contingency plans were discussed during the seminar to strengthen overall response mechanism for combating oil pollution at sea.

COAST GUARD COMMENCES IN-HOUSE DOCKING OF SHIPS AT CHENNAI   Indian Coast Guard undertook a maiden docking of its ship ICGS C-435 at recently refurbished slip-way. The maiden docking of Coast Guard ship ICGS C-435 was monitored by Inspector General Donny Michael, Commander, Coast Guard Region (East). The slip-way is part of overall infrastructure located at Timber Pond and Boat basin in Chennai Port taken on long lease by ICG. The slip-way will give a boost to in-house repair facilities of Coast Guard leading to faster turnaround of its ships undergoing repairs and refit at Chennai. TRAINING COMMAND CHIEF VISITS AIR FORCE ADMINISTRATIVE COLLEGE Air Marshal R Radhish, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) Training Command, Indian Air Force visited Air Force Administrative College (AFAC) on 06 January 2023. He was received by Air Commodore RV Ramkisho re, Commandant  AFAC.  During the visit, the Air Marshal visited various training facilities at the college and reviewed the ongoing trainin g activities.
